【Maolin National Scenic Area】
The Maolin National Scenic Area combines mountain and coastal scenery in an expansive area covering six townships in Kaohsiung and Pingtung counties. Butterfly watching, hot spring baths, and Rukai aboriginal culture and cuisine are among the many attractions here.
Situated in the Maolin National Scenic Area, this is one of only two habitats in the world for wintering butterflies. Over a million euploea althaea butterflies find shelter from the winter chill in the valley at the foothills of Dawu Mountain every year between December and February, before returning north in the spring. The valley has been preserved as an eco-park where visitors can get an up-close look at these beautiful butterflies.
【Baolai Hot Spring】
Situated off the Southern Cross-Island Highway, Baolai is home to the best known hot springs in southern Taiwan. Visitors can enjoy the dramatic cliff views here as they soak in these beauty- and health-enhancing springs.
